Learn more about preventing cavities and tooth decay
At Huntersville Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we believe the best way to prevent cavities is to make healthy dental habits a part of your routine. Follow these tips to brush up on your oral hygiene and stop those cavities before they start!
Visit the dentist every six months.
Routine dental cleanings and exams are a great preventive measure for removing plaque and catching dental issues, like cavities, in the early stages. X-rays detect cavities not seen visible to the naked eye.
Be a smart brusher.
Not only should you brush twice a day, but brush your teeth for two minutes to ensure you are thoroughly reaching each tooth. Set an alarm or brushing timer the next time you brush. You might find you are skimping on the brushing time.
Floss once a day.
Many cavities form between two teeth. Flossing removes food debris that becomes stuck where your toothbrush can’t reach.
Eliminate excess sugar.
A healthy diet is important to your teeth and overall health. Limit sugary beverages and drink more water. Avoid snacking on food high in sugar and choose crunchy vegetables instead.
dental sealants as only being for children, but adults can benefit from them, too. This protective coating seals the crevices found in the molars in the back of your mouth.
