Did you know permanent teeth are formed and already growing in a child’s skull several years before primary (baby) teeth begin falling out? As permanent teeth grow, they push on the roots of primary teeth causing them to loosen and eventually fall out. Of course, kids can speed along the process by pulling out the loose tooth. Most children will lose their first tooth between the ages of 5 to 6 years old. Dr. Anthony Marra recommends children have their first dental exam by age 1 and have their first dental x-rays by age 5 to ensure all permanent teeth have formed. Occasionally a child will be missing a permanent tooth.
