Dental Inlay and Onlay Procedure
Porcelain Inlays and Onlays can be a conservative alternative to full coverage dental crowns and can often be used in place of traditional dental fillings.

Also known as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays offer a well-fitting, stronger and longer lasting reparative solution to tooth decay or similar structural damage.
These restorations are beneficial from both an esthetic and functional point of view.
The restoration process is called an “Inlay” when the material is bonded within the center of a tooth. Conversely, the restoration process is called an “Onlay” when the extent of the damage requires inclusion of one or more cusps of the tooth or full coverage of the biting surface.
This restoration process will take two visits to complete. At your first visit, Dr. Marra will painlessly remove the decay or old filling and a detailed impression of your tooth will be taken.
A temporary white filling will be put in place until your next visit. Our master ceramist will then create the custom dental inlay or onlay in the dental lab.
A week or two later, Dr. Marra will remove the temporary filling and bond the porcelain inlay or onlay to the tooth. This restoration process is much more durable than traditional fillings, typically lasting 5-10 years.
