Dental implants are permanently inserted into the jaw. This “outpatient” 1 to 2 hour surgical procedure begins with preparing the jawbone which may require bone grafting. Anesthesia is required to eliminate pain and/or discomfort to the patient. The removal of unstable or broken teeth in and around the application area is also necessary.
We can use an implant to replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth or to secure a denture. In older dental patients, implants are often used to replace an entire mouthful of teeth lost due to disease. They look, feel and function like natural teeth and truly are the next best thing to having your own teeth.
The process takes a series of visits over the course of two to six months. Dr. Marra and Dr. Layne will perform a thorough assessment of your mouth including 3D x-rays to help you determine if dental implants are the right choice for you.
